County Farmers Visit U.S. Rep In Washington, D.C.

Poole Elected To State Forestry Committee

Local Farmer Honored During Catfish Farming Meeting
A Catfish Industry Update Meeting was held Dec. 4 in Demopolis. Farmers heard from researchers and Ag & Industries Commissioner-Elect Rick Pate. The State Catfish Committee also held elections, and individuals were honored with leadership awards.
Committee chairman and Sumter County catfish farmer Sid Nelson and Mike Owens of Harvest Select Catfish & Seafood in Greensboro received Leadership Awards from the Aquaculture and Fisheries Business Institute.
Sumter County Farmers Federation Earns 2018 Award of Excellence
The Sumter County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 3. during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 97th Annual Meeting in Montgomery. To earn the distinction, counties must score at least 80 points out of 100 on the award application, which covers involvement in agricultural programs, governmental affairs, county Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees.

Farmers Federations Sponsor Annual UWA Fish Fry
Over 485 people attended the University of West Alabama Fish Fry Sept. 6 before the football game versus Miles College. Farmers Federations from Greene, Choctaw, Sumter, Marengo, Pickens, Washington and Hale counties sponsored the annual event.
UWA President Ken Tucker, the provost, the athletic director, Livingston Mayor Tom Tartt, Rep. AJ McCampbell, Rep. Ralph Howard & Sen. Bobby Singleton attended.
