Congressional Staff Tours Cotton Damage In The Wiregrass
Mike Albares, deputy chief of staff for Rep. Martha Roby, checked on cotton fields that survived Hurricane Michael in Geneva County with Brandon Dillard Oct. 29.
The cotton was farther from Michael’s path, was planted later and was not defoliated at the time of the storm, though there is still lint on the ground.

Geneva County Students Participate In Alfa Youth Leadership Conference
Geneva County students Addyson Martin, Emma Brackin, Harrison and Isaac McGowan, Emily Lamb and Taylor Revels sharpened leadership skills during the Alfa Youth Leadership Conference at the 4-H Center in Columbiana Oct. 8-9. They attend Geneva High School and were sponsored by the Geneva County Farmers Federation. Revels Competes In Annual State Heritage Cooking Contest
Teresa Revels of Geneva County entered her recipe for Jalapeno Bacon Wrapped Cocktails in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
Jalapeno Bacon Wrapped Cocktails
2 cups brown sugar
2 packages cream cheese
2 packages cocktail sausage
13 jalapeno peppers
2 packages bacon
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Wash, cut in half and seed peppers. Boil peppers in water until they start to turn color. Drain and let cool. Spread a small amount of cream cheese on the inside of each pepper. Put 1 or 2 cocktail sausage(s) on each pepper and wrap a whole slice of bacon around each one. Put bacon wrapped peppers on a roaster pan. Sprinkle brown sugar over each one. Place in over until bacon is brown, about 30-40 minutes (depends on the size of the pepper). Take out and put on your favorite dish. Can be served with Ranch dressing if desired.
