Local Farmer Hears From Alabama Congressman During Row Crops Short Course

Dale County Farmers Federation Earns 2018 Award of Excellence
The Dale County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 3. during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 97th Annual Meeting in Montgomery. To earn the distinction, counties must score at least 80 points out of 100 on the award application, which covers involvement in agricultural programs, governmental affairs, county Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees.

Dale County's Green Recognized During Alabama Landowners Conference
Andrew Green of Dale County, right, received the Gary Fortenberry Partnership Award, Southern Region during the Alabama Landowners Conference Awards Program Oct. 15 at the Marriott Prattville Hotel and Conference Center. This award recognizes individuals who have helped the Alabama TREASURE Forest Association (ATFA) carry out its mission through building and growing county chapters, empowering and encouraging landowners, or outreach efforts to youth and others.

Dale County Student Studying Agriculture Earns College Scholarship
Auburn University student Hannah Welch of Dale County received a $1,750 scholarship from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and Dale County Farmers Federation. She was recognized at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Scholarship Reception at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn Sept. 20. Welch is a sophomore studying poultry science pre-vet track and is from Ozark. McDaniel Competes In Annual State Heritage Cooking Contest
Lyn McDaniel of Dale County entered her recipe for Zesty Bacon Knots in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
Zesty Bacon Knots
2 lbs. thick cut bacon
1 ¼ cups brown sugar
1 Tbsp. ground mustard
2 pouches of Zesty Italian dressing mix
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut each piece of bacon in half, tie in a knot and place on a 9x13” casserole dish. Mix the 3 dry ingredients together and sprinkle on top. Cover dish with foil and cook for 30 minutes. Uncover and cook dish for 10 more minutes. Turn oven to broil and cook for 5 more minutes.
