Coosa County Student Studying Agriculture Earns College Scholarship
Auburn University student Blake Pharr of Coosa County received a $1,750 scholarship from the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation and Coosa County Farmers Federation. He was recognized at the Alabama Farmers Federation’s Scholarship Reception at the Ham Wilson Livestock Arena in Auburn Sept. 20. Pharr, who is from Sylacauga, is a junior studying forestry. Reichert Wins Second Place In Annual State Heritage Cooking Contest
Pinky Reichert of Coosa County won second place and $100 in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest with her Mini BLTs. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
2 packages mini fillo shells (Athens with 15 shells per package)
10 slices crisp applewood bacon, chopped
10 grape tomatoes, diced
1 ½ cup finely chopped Fresh Express lettuce trio
Scant ¼ cup Blue Plate sandwich spread
2 Tbsp. chopped chives
Directions: Combine bacon, tomatoes and lettuce in a bowl. Slowly add sandwich spread and stir until coated. Spoon mixture into shells and sprinkle chives over the tops.
