Choctaw County Farmers Federation Earns 2018 Award of Excellence
The Choctaw County Farmers Federation received the Award for Excellence Dec. 3. during the Alabama Farmers Federation’s 97th Annual Meeting in Montgomery. To earn the distinction, counties must score at least 80 points out of 100 on the award application, which covers involvement in agricultural programs, governmental affairs, county Women’s Leadership and Young Farmers committees.

Farmers Federations Sponsor Annual UWA Fish Fry
Over 485 people attended the University of West Alabama Fish Fry Sept. 6 before the football game versus Miles College. Farmers Federations from Greene, Choctaw, Sumter, Marengo, Pickens, Washington and Hale counties sponsored the annual event.
UWA President Ken Tucker, the provost, the athletic director, Livingston Mayor Tom Tartt, Rep. AJ McCampbell, Rep. Ralph Howard & Sen. Bobby Singleton attended.
Lanier Competes In Annual State Heritage Cooking Contest
Anne Lanier of Choctaw County won first place and $150 in the 2018 Heritage Cooking Contest with her Bacon Pimento Cheese Bites. The annual contest is sponsored by the Alabama Farmers Federation Women's Leadership Division and highlights a specific commodity. For 2018, pork was the highlighted commodity.
Bacon Pimento Cheese Bites
2 packages 15 count Athens mini filo shells
15 bacon slices cooked crispy and crumbled
¾ cup prepared pimento cheese
½ cup Captain Rodney’s Boucan Glaze
Directions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Fill each mini filo shell with 1 teaspoon pimento cheese. Make a well in each filled shell and add ½ teaspoon Captain Rodney’s Boucan Glaze. Top with bacon crumbles. Transfer to baking sheet and bake 5-8 minutes. Serve warm. Makes 30 appetizers. Tip: the filo shells are easier to work with if left in package while adding filling and then remove from package and place on baking sheet.
